ABOUT DANIEL

Daniel began Skykeep in his 3rd story apartment in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. When his first son was born, his “shop” was converted to a nursery. Needless to say, he and his family moved shortly thereafter so both the baby and the hand planes would have their own space. They left the city for Rockport, Maine, where Daniel studied at the Center for Furniture Craftmanship. He currently resides in Defiance, Missouri.

ABOUT SKYKEEP

A tree is formed by its environment, one day at a time. Each hour of sunshine, each thunderstorm, every early frost, is taken in by the tree and becomes part of its very fibers. Days stretch into years and each season is kept within the tree like a record.

While a culture of convenience has streamlined our lives in many good ways, it has not come without a cost. By surrounding ourselves with goods that are fast, cheap, and expendable, the subtle expectation becomes that whatever it is, it should be able to be quickly and easily replaced. The life of a tree speaks against this notion.

At Skykeep, we seek to restore the joy of owning something with an enduring integrity. That integrity is sown through attentive design and uncompromising craftsmanship. Using time-tested joinery techniques, we build furniture to withstand both the sunrises and the thunderstorms of life. Furniture that reveals the beautiful story so patiently woven into the grain. Furniture that honors the days already past and the many days to come.
